Vegan Needle Felting

Needle felting Fox art

All of the felt I use are synthetic or plant based fibres, no animal products are used. To see the variety of fibres I use please check out my list of art materials here!

Admittedly needle Felting was never something I was interested in until my mum wanted to buy some handmade felted animals, which were made of wool. She had a go at making some herself with vegan fibres but didn't like the result claiming vegan fibres didn't work! So I took that as a challenge and offered to try and make her some in fibres that were cruelty free and found that needle felting was actually very energy efficient for my health and meant I could get back into making sculpTure again, since I had had to give up sculpting with polymer clay.

I use different types of synthetic and plant based fibres. One of my favourites to use is recycled plastic bottle fibre as it's got a great texture, is fast to work with and of course is using recycled materials and reusing plastics instead of having them go to landfill. I dye these fibres myself and use either alcohol inks or Rit Dyes.

I like to save as much of the cut offs and excess from the pieces I'm working on to use as core for a new project so that as little as possible gets wasted or thrown away.

Needle Felting for Charity

I'm really glad to have been able to donate some of my sculptures to charities and rescues to help them raise money for their causes. Some of these include Heartwood Haven Rescue and The Sheep Sanctuary and I hope to continue making art for charity as much as my health allows.
